The Adventure Begins

  • Our players load up inside their VR tech and start the dive into Tyranny of the Sun King.
  • Describe the load up process to the players; upon log-in there is already an avatar waiting for them, their avatar from the beta (though obviously with far less gear than they last played it).
  • Remember how in the last survey before beta closed there were odd questions:
    • What class do you intend to play come release day?
    • What items from your beta play through would you like to get again?
  • Encourage the players to log in with the old avatar, comment on how despite it is the same face they remember creating that the gear doesn't quite seem like the gear they started with when they first made the characters.

Plotting

Log-in
  • Flying through space. Use this time to describe the 7 settings.
  • This game is different. Unlike other MMOs, the grand prize at the end of the game is that the player(s) who take out the sun-king gain admin privileges.
  • Move forward straight towards the sun. Can feel the sun almost looking back at them like it is aware of their presence.
  • Hover before the sun a moment before dropping down towards a planet; feeling of vertigo - blackout.
  • Consciousness; floating in black with a portal before them. Exit to town square where 5 portals sit.
Commencement Ceremony
  • Arrive during festivities of midsummer festival.
  • Have couple hours to mill about before the ceremony.
  • Recognize familiar avatars?
  • NPCGMPC Cleric of the Sun-King greets everyone for midsummer festival (held at sundown). Gives a bit of a speech before the avatar glitches a couple times and disappears, quickly followed by the other GMPCs in the crowd (including the captain of the guard).
  • Several long moments of nothing before people start talking amongst themselves… another few moments before people start looking for the logout button and don't find it.
  • Panic slowly starts building; Small fight breaks out and the NPC guards start moving in.
  • Guard gets hit and loses some HP….. guards in towns are supposed to be immortal to help keep order.
  • Panic becomes official and mob mentality kicks in.
  • Strongly encourage PCs to GTFO!
    If players look to leave town…
    • Guide them to the next nearest town where they will all meet up at the Inn(The Beggar and Flask).
    • Next town over is called Outwood.
    • See Quest: Voices in the Dark.
    If players look to stay in town…
    • Then they get to witness a riot break out in Arenon.
    • Players ransack the city in the confusion.
    • Stores get looted, people get beat up and robbed.
    • See Quest: Reclaiming Order.

Reclaiming Order

  • Hopefully the players have met up by this point either in the portal yard or at the Beggar and Flask Inn during Voices in the Dark.
  • If they have not then have them meet trying to stop some unruly players from assaulting another player (Vadania if necessary, otherwise save her for later). This should be an easy task to get into the game since most players are level 1.
  • Players raiding a shop
  • Guards asking for assistance, etc.
  • After first day the looting has ebbed but the city is in ruin.
  • Players asked to aid in clean-up at least. Possibly rebuild.

Voices in the Dark

  • If players have not met up yet then they meet at the Beggar and Flask Inn in Outwood.
  • When they come in they notice the clear adventurers of similar tier gear as their own.
  • Hopefully they will all sit at the same table together to discuss wtf is going on.
  • Give them a moment to go over the options and freak out appropriately.
  • Child approaches (Joanne (age 6)), and asks if the adventurers are in town to help the people that are having trouble sleeping.
    • People that her father works with.
    • Father is a gravedigger and catacomb tender.
  • Clear the dungeon of the skeletons and zombies and ghouls stalking it.
  • Upon completion the little girl is so happy that she hugs the nearest adventurer. Roll 1d6.
  • After finishing Voices in the Dark the party will either return to Arenon or pursue their adventure further from Outwood.
