Fursete

God of Justice

Fursete is the great-grandson of Crom Cruach, the Primal God, grandson of Lady Berchta and Lord Huldar, son of Oden, Freygga, and Thoare, nephew of Lokki and Malkina, brother of Idun, Heimdall, and Sife, cousin to Skaddie, Aegur, Turuk-roth, and Ackdynu, and uncle of the demigoddess, Eastara.

Through his priests, Fursete promotes true justice, fostering honourable governance that enacts equitable laws, ensuring truthful and impartial trials and hearings for all crimes and legal disputes, with fair punishments, administered without bias, for convicted wrongdoers. His goals are rehabilitation for those who can be turned from the paths of iniquity, and swift and sure retribution for those whose remorseless crimes set them beyond grace. However when tyranny arises, or when rulers are driven by personal gain or aggrandisement, and the laws themselves are cruel and unfair, it becomes necessary for his priests to protect those victimised by the governments that by rights should be committed to the common weal. It then becomes their mission to expose the corruption of the wicked and powerful, and avenge those who cannot avenge themselves.

When a priest of Fursete is approached by someone who claims to have been wronged, he must investigate the situation, decide who's right and who's wrong, and take steps to bring the guilty party to justice. If it is ever necessary for them to personally act as judge, they must be wholly objective, taking both sides under due consideration, weighing any mitigating or exacerbating circumstances, and making sure any punishment warranted fits the crime, neither unduly harsh nor lenient. He is not at liberty to impose a death sentence under such circumstances; in capital crimes one priest can not act as investigator, prosecutor, judge, and headsman, but must serve in concert with no fewer than three fellow priests, one in each role.

Since priests are often approached to punish those whom ordinary laws can't touch (for instance, a rich man who can bribe his way out of any charge or punishment), they frequently have to overcome obstacles set in their way by dishonest local authorities. The situation only worsens when the entire government is riddled with malfeasance, but under those circumstances the priests must redouble their efforts, despite the considerable risks to themselves.

(Bags of Holding are greatly prized by priests of Fursete)

Followers and Strongholds

At ninth level a priest may found his own order and construct a Chapter House for the training of novices. The priesthood will pay for half of the cost of construction. The structure must include a substantial library, chapel, courtroom, judicial chambers, gaol, training field, and an execution chamber or field.

Holy Symbols and Vestments

The Scales of Justice, signifying the weighing of the strengths and weaknesses of the case before the court, and the Double-edged Sword or Double-bitted Axe illustrating the power of Reason and Justice which may be wielded either for or against any party, are the primary, widely recognised symbols of Fursete.
His priests wear dark red cassocks covered by ivory surplices when performing their official public duties, simple ones of plain woollen and linen for everyday wear, elaborate ones of fine silks and velvets, richly embroidered, for ceremonial occasions. The most solemn rituals further require the priests to wear a blindfold, representing objectivity; justice must be meted out without fear or favour, regardless of identity, money, power, or weakness.
Fursete's companion animal is the great snowy owl.
