Trewschan Clothing

There is considerable similarity in the clothing worn by all peoples who make their homes in polar regions, for they all face the same need and hindrance: protection from the extreme climate and limitations on available materials.

As with other arctic societies, in the Trewschan Confederation most garments are made of fur and leather. Although the hardy norland sheep are herded in the southernmost areas, most wool and virtually all linen are imported from Caldorne and Nordvald. Hemp is widely grown--for food and fodder as well as cloth and cordage--but arable land is scarce, and the fields needed for hemp production are the same ones best suited to growing barley, their staple grain; the crops are usually rotated, but hempen cloth is still something of a luxury fabric.

In winter Trewschans dress in layer upon layer of warm, insulating fur. Over indoor clothing they wear stockings, inner and outer chausses,

and boots consisting of soft, knee high, double-layer reindeer hide, one layer with the fur in, the other, fur out, an inner felted boot and an outer fur slipper.

The overtunics are layered as well
